Trade discussions involving the Miami Heat have prominently featured star forward Jimmy Butler, who has expressed a desire to join a contender before the February trade deadline and reportedly has a preferred list of teams.
However, the Heat are also exploring the possibility of acquiring John Konchar, a guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, who could enhance their 3-point shooting capabilities.
As reported by Marc Stein, Miami is among several teams interested in making a deal for him, according to NBACentral. At 28 years old, Konchar is currently in his sixth season in the NBA and boasts an impressive shooting percentage of 39.1% from beyond the arc.
While he averages only 12.1 minutes and 4.4 points per game over his career, his presence could provide a modest boost to Miami’s depth. The Memphis Grizzlies are currently enjoying a successful season with a 20-10 record, placing them third in the Western Conference, and they appear to be on the verge of maturing into serious championship contenders.
With an abundance of guard talent, Memphis might consider trading Konchar to enhance their forward position. On the other hand, the Heat sit at 14-13 and seem to have plateaued after their appearances in the NBA Finals in 2019 and 2022.
While they have some promising young players to build around, Butler’s age at 35 raises the urgency for Miami to obtain draft assets in exchange for him, aiding their retooling efforts.
