On Thursday, Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, expressed his support for Ben Wikler, the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, as the next leader of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
Schumer stated, “I have said since the day after the election that Democrats should view this moment as a challenge. We must listen to the American people, learn from the results, and move forward stronger,” in a post on the social media platform X. He added, “That’s why I am enthusiastically supporting @benwikler to be the next Chair of the DNC.”

Describing Wikler as “a tenacious organizer, a proven fundraiser, a sharp communicator, & able to reach out to all segments of the Democratic Party,” Schumer highlighted Wikler’s capability to achieve victory in elections.
Wikler is among several candidates vying for the DNC chair position next month, which also includes Ken Martin, chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party; former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley; New York State Senator James Skoufis; and Nate Snyder, a former official with the Department of Homeland Security.
Additionally, former Maryland Senate candidate Robert Houton and ex-presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson are also in the race, though they are regarded as long shots.
Schumer’s backing of Wikler is considered one of his most known endorsements to date. The chair of the Wisconsin state party has also garnered support from organizations such as the centrist Third Way, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, indicating a broad appeal among party members.
Schumer’s endorsement may also motivate other undecided DNC members and party leaders to support Wikler.
Meanwhile, Ken Martin has secured at least 100 endorsements from DNC members as well.
