The Georgia Republican Party has expelled former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R), a vocal critic of President-elect Trump, following his endorsement of Vice President Harris’s 2024 presidential bid.
A resolution issued by the party’s State Executive Committee declared Duncan’s expulsion and included a directive to media outlets. The advisory, shared on platform X, requested Duncan be identified as “expelled Republican Geoff Duncan” or “ousted Republican Geoff Duncan” when quoting his remarks critical of Trump or the Republican Party.
Responding to the advisory, Duncan expressed his dismay over the party’s focus, stating it was hard to believe such actions were a wise use of time.
Referring to pressing global and national issues like mass deportations and tariffs, Duncan sarcastically added, “Learn how to take a victory lap, not light another dumpster fire @JoshMcKoon,” referencing the Georgia GOP chair.
Duncan’s dissent within the party gained prominence during the 2020 presidential election when he aligned with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in certifying election results, opposing Trump’s stance.
His recent appearance at the 2024 Democratic National Convention further intensified criticism. During the event, he urged voters to back Harris, describing the choice as “patriotic.”
Addressing the convention, Duncan avoided targeting Trump’s supporters directly. Instead, he directed his message toward Republicans and independents disillusioned by making excuses for the former president, emphasizing the need for accountability and change.
