On Tuesday morning, leaders from the House Republican Party conducted a news conference as GOP lawmakers faced challenges regarding President-elect Trump’s public deliberations on whether his agenda should be advanced through one or two substantial spending bills.
Over the weekend, Trump advocated for “one powerful bill” encompassing issues such as energy, the southern border, taxes, and possibly the debt limit, but he later indicated a willingness to consider two separate bills instead.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) expressed on Sunday his expectation that much of Trump’s agenda would be passed before Memorial Day.
This press conference served as the inaugural event of the 119th Congress and marked the first since Johnson’s reelection as Speaker the previous week.
These comments were made just a day after Trump was officially recognized as the winner of the 2024 election. The Republicans in the chamber applauded with a standing ovation when Vice President Harris, who was defeated in the election, declared Trump’s official victory.
