Imagining a Polestar gracefully sliding through a snow-covered business park might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but the Swedish EV manufacturer is set on making that vision a reality. With rally-inspired versions of its 3 and 4 SUVs, the brand is taking an aggressive, winter-ready approach to performance.
Polestar previously explored rally-style driving with its 2 hatchback in 2022, transforming it into an Arctic Circle edition with studded tires, a raised suspension, rally lights, and other modifications for tackling icy terrain.
Now, the company has extended this treatment to the 3 and 4 SUVs, expanding its Arctic Circle lineup. However, for those eager to experience these upgrades, there’s a catch—both models are one-of-a-kind builds, with no plans for mass production.
Performance Enhancements and Key Features
The Arctic Circle versions of the Polestar 3 and 4 follow a similar blueprint to the modified Polestar 2. Both are based on the Long Range dual-motor variants with the Performance package.
The Polestar 3 delivers 510 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque, while the Polestar 4 produces 536 horsepower and 506 lb-ft. Custom Öhlins adjustable dampers increase ground clearance by 1.6 inches for the 3 and 0.8 inches for the 4, enhancing their ability to go through slippery, snow-covered surfaces.
To further improve traction, both SUVs are fitted with 295/40R-20 Pirelli Scorpion studded tires. Meanwhile, for those seeking extra control in deep snow, the Polestar 4 Arctic Circle features a hydraulic handbrake, perfect for executing rally-style drifts.
Distinct Styling and Specialized Equipment
Visually, the Arctic Circle editions adopt an unmistakable rally aesthetic. Both models ride on 19-inch OZ Racing wheels and feature Stedi Quad Pro LED spotlights, gold tow hooks, and mud flaps. However, each SUV is tailored to a different purpose.
The Polestar 3 Arctic Circle leans toward practicality, with a roof basket carrying a spare studded tire, snow ladders, a snow shovel, and an additional roof-mounted light bar. On the other hand, the Polestar 4 Arctic Circle embraces adventure, with a set of all-terrain skis mounted to its windowless rear hatch.
Polestar will debut these winter-ready SUVs at the F.A.T. Ice Race in Austria on February 1, showcasing their performance potential in extreme conditions.
While they may not be suited for everyday errands, there’s no denying that these Arctic Circle builds look far more exciting carving through snow than sitting in a parking lot.
