After learning that they were drawn into Group D alongside Senegal, DR Congo, and Benin for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Botswana’s head coach, Morena Ramoreboli, shared his plans and expectations for the team.
Ramoreboli, who recently earned a full-time appointment after guiding Botswana through the qualifiers, admitted that the journey ahead will demand a lot from the squad.

During his remarks, he pointed out that the group includes countries with long-standing football backgrounds. He mentioned that they are fully aware of the achievements and performances of these nations in past AFCON appearances.
The coach made it clear that Botswana must step up its intensity. He reminded everyone that this will be the team’s second appearance at the tournament.
According to him, their qualification came through hard work, and now they must push harder by staying committed, respecting their opponents, and giving everything on the pitch.
Permanent Appointment and Track Record of Success
His move to a full-time role came right after he successfully guided the Zebras to their first AFCON qualification since 2012. That period in charge gave the federation enough confidence to make the appointment official.
Before handling the national team, Ramoreboli managed Jwaneng Galaxy, where he won the Botswana Premier League twice. Under his leadership, the club also achieved positive results in regional contests like COSAFA.
Bigger Ambitions for Botswana’s National Team
Now that he’s officially in charge, Ramoreboli has set larger goals for Botswana. He wants the team to raise their FIFA ranking, reach the knockout stage of the upcoming AFCON, and make progress during the qualification rounds for the next World Cup.
In March, the team will face Algeria in a World Cup qualifier that will serve as an important test under his leadership. That match will be the first big challenge for the Zebras since their permanent role was confirmed.
