When the Philadelphia Eagles acquired A.J. Brown in a blockbuster trade, it certainly turned heads, but it shouldn’t overshadow the fact that they already had an elite wide receiver in DeVonta Smith, who quickly proved himself as a legitimate No. 1 option.
Smith, a standout from his college days, wasted no time making an impact in the NFL, but his preparation for game day has been unconventional.
He had previously revealed that he requires McDonald’s for breakfast before any home game, specifically a McGriddle with two hash browns and orange juice to start his day.
Now, the former University of Alabama star has revealed another unusual habit: he thrives on sleep deprivation. In an interview with The Pivot, Smith shared that he plays at his best after just four hours of sleep, adding that he performs poorly if he gets a full eight hours (via Eagles Nation).
While his sleep schedule seems far from ideal, it’s clearly working for him on the field. Known for his exceptional route-running and ability to create separation, Smith’s unorthodox methods appear to be effective.
Everyone has their own unique way of preparing for success, but this one is certainly a first. Eagles fans will likely be hoping that insomnia strikes Smith before every game, and the local McDonald’s will certainly need to be prepared to serve him his go-to order when he arrives.
