The Green Bay Packers appeared to be a near certainty for the playoffs, but securing a victory over the Chicago Bears was essential to remove any lingering doubts. Interestingly, this matchup turned out to be advantageous for Matt LaFleur’s squad.
Despite being one of the NFL’s most storied rivalries, the dynamic between the Packers and Bears has been lopsided for years, with Green Bay consistently dominating their divisional foes.
This dominance prompted Packers linebacker Preston Smith to take to Twitter after the win, poking fun at the Bears by highlighting his unblemished record against them. “We just don’t lose to the Bears…I’m 12-0,” Smith declared.
Green Bay extended its winning streak over Chicago to ten games, with Aaron Rodgers famously declaring his ownership of the rivalry during his tenure.
The Bears, in a position to disrupt the Packers’ postseason hopes and spoil Jordan Love’s first season as a starter, failed to capitalize as quarterback Justin Fields struggled to generate any offensive momentum. The upset never materialized at Lambeau Field.
However, with two first-round draft picks on the horizon, Chicago could significantly improve next season and finally put an end to Green Bay’s overwhelming control of the rivalry.
