Tottenham Hotspur are now finalizing a permanent move for Mathys Tel, bringing him in from Bayern Munich. The young forward from France, who plays for the Under-21 national team, had been at Spurs on loan during the second part of the 2024-25 season.
Instead of activating the original buy clause worth €55 million, Spurs have adjusted the terms and are now going ahead with a fresh agreement that begins at €35 million. There is also an added possibility of €10 million in bonus payments, depending on certain conditions being met.

During his time so far with Tottenham, Tel has played in 19 matches and has managed to find the net three times.
He contributed to Tottenham’s Europa League success, helping the team break a 17-year wait for a trophy. That victory also earned the club a return to Champions League football for the upcoming season.
Postecoglou’s Early Belief in Tel’s Future
From the moment Tel arrived in February, former coach Ange Postecoglou had been firm about the idea that the forward would stay at the club beyond his loan period.
Postecoglou had shared his view right after the signing, saying that Tel’s long-term role at Spurs was already certain. “He’ll be a Tottenham player,” he had remarked. “I didn’t bring him here for only six months.”
That vision will now continue under new management, as Thomas Frank has replaced Postecoglou, who was dismissed in June.
Tel’s Background and Previous Achievements
Before coming to England, Tel had been with Bayern Munich, who signed him from Rennes in 2022. While with the German club, he made 83 appearances and scored 16 goals, along with seven assists.
He also made history at Bayern by becoming their youngest player ever to score, which happened in August during a 5-0 victory over Viktoria Cologne. That goal broke the previous record set by Jamal Musiala.
Interest From Premier League Rivals
Manchester United had kept an eye on Tel’s situation during the January transfer window and were considering a loan move if it became available.
Chelsea, too, had been tracking Tel for a while and made their inquiry, continuing their long-term interest in the player.
