Italian media outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and journalist Fabrizio Roman,o have revealed that Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos is close to finalizing a move to AS Roma.
The Serie A side has tabled a €30 million offer, made up of €27 million in base payment and €3 million in potential bonuses.
Roma has already agreed on personal terms with the player, and the last part of the process depends on whether Palmeiras agrees to the entire guaranteed amount.
Social Media Gesture Sparks Speculation
Ríos gave a clue about his possible departure when he shared a social media post after Palmeiras’ match against Mirassol. He used the same song he previously selected when he left Guaraní, which many took as a signal that he may be saying goodbye again. This act has strengthened speculation about his upcoming move.
His performances with Palmeiras, especially during the Club World Cup, brought him into the spotlight. Several clubs began to monitor him closely, including Benfica, Zenit, and Nottingham Forest.
Benfica made a late effort to bring him in, and Argentine defender Nicolás Otamendi even reached out to Ríos personally. However, reports indicate that he has made up his mind and chosen Roma.
Roma’s Midfield Plan
Roma’s current management, along with former coach Gian Piero Gasperini, considers Ríos to be an important addition who can improve their midfield ahead of both Serie A and Europa League competition.
Ríos is expected to arrive in Italy soon, where he will undergo medical tests before signing a contract that pays him €2.5 million each year.
