For close to 18 months, Martin Subimendi’s name had been mentioned in connection with Arsenal, but it is only now that the transfer has gone through. The Spanish midfielder opened up about the reason behind his long wait.
Subimendi mentioned that during the previous summer, he was not ready to exit Real Sociedad because he still had unfinished business with the club. At that moment, he felt a strong responsibility to contribute more to the squad.

Now that time has passed, he believes the right moment has arrived for a new journey, and for that to happen, he needs to be under the right manager. In Mikel Arteta, he believes he has found the kind of leader he was searching for.
Subimendi Shares Why He Stayed Back at Real Sociedad
He explained, “The first thing I had to ask myself was whether I really wanted to continue with Real Sociedad. Last summer didn’t feel like the best time to go. I believed that remaining there was still a step forward in my growth, and I felt I still owed something to the club. That made me stay.”
Subimendi added, “I cannot say for sure what Arteta noticed about me, but what I saw in him was one of the best coaches in Europe. When I was ready to move, I needed someone who met that standard.”
“His deep focus on small details and how he handles the game stood out to me. I think I have made the right decision. This change is what I needed. From my very first day at Arsenal, I could feel the size of this club. Right now, I am adjusting well.” These words were reported by Sky Sports.
