Vancouver Whitecaps FC shared an update on Tuesday, confirming that defender Ranko Veselinović will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
The injury happened during the first half of their match on Saturday against San Diego FC. In the coming days, the club’s medical staff will assess the situation further and decide how best to proceed with his treatment.

Whitecaps FC sporting director Axel Schuster expressed deep sadness while reacting to the news. According to him, Veselinović has played a major role on the field with strong performances and has also shown leadership off it.

Schuster said the player has been a dependable figure throughout the season, so it is hard to accept that his campaign has ended early. He added that everyone at the club stands firmly behind the player as he enters recovery.
Throughout the current campaign, Veselinović has worn the captain’s armband for most of the matches. He has started in 29 out of 32 games played across all competitions.
The match on Saturday also marked his 200th game for Whitecaps FC, putting him level with Jordan Harvey for the second-highest appearance count during the club’s time in Major League Soccer.
