Alan Rodríguez, who has served as captain and an important figure for Argentinos Juniors, is now set to begin a new chapter in Brazil after finalizing a transfer to Internacional de Porto Alegre.
Although Boca Juniors had previously tried to bring him in during past transfer windows, it was the Brazilian club that ended up signing him. The agreement involves a payment of $4.5 million for 80 percent of his player rights.
Since making the move to Argentinos in the middle of 2022, Rodríguez quickly made a strong impact and earned a place as a regular starter. Even though he dealt with some injuries along the way, his performances remained strong enough to earn him the captain’s armband in the previous season.
Throughout his time there, he appeared in 93 matches, registered eight goals, and assisted five times. He showed he could play in many roles, even though his main position is right central midfield.
He also contributed as a defensive midfielder, left center midfielder, winger, right-back, and sometimes even as a second striker.
Why Boca Missed Out
Boca Juniors had been monitoring Rodríguez for a while, but they never submitted an official proposal to sign him. The situation changed even more after Leandro Paredes returned to the club, reducing the urgency to go after another midfielder.
As things stand now, Rodríguez is heading into a competitive Internacional squad that will compete in the Brasileirao and also face Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16.
He is expected to join a group that includes Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, Argentine defenders Gabriel Mercado and Braian Aguirre, as well as experienced attackers like Rafael Santos Borré, Enner Valencia, and Alan Patrick.
Transfer Window Impact for Argentinos
Argentinos Juniors have now completed another high-value transfer deal with Rodríguez’s move. This comes after they also sold Román Vega and José María Herrera in the same window.
From all three transfers combined, the club has raised close to $16 million, boosting its earnings during this period.
