A transition is underway for the New England Patriots as the franchise enters a new chapter of football, having parted ways with iconic head coach Bill Belichick. With rookie quarterback Drake Maye at the helm, the team is now focused on rebuilding.
Since being named the starter by head coach Jerod Mayo, Maye has displayed glimpses of potential, yet the Patriots have faced ongoing challenges, winning only two games as they approach the season’s midpoint.
Given the current state of the Patriots, it comes as no surprise that several teams have expressed interest in acquiring their talented players as the NFL trade deadline approaches.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Patriots fielded calls from other teams regarding four players: Davon Godchaux, KJ Osborn, Kyle Dugger, and Kendrick Bourne.
As highlighted by Russini, the only transaction made by the Patriots before the trade deadline involved sending Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the remainder of the season, the focus will be on providing Maye with valuable playing time while ensuring he remains healthy as the potential future leader of the franchise.
However, this objective may prove challenging, as the offensive line struggles to provide adequate protection, often forcing the rookie to rely on his mobility to generate plays and keep New England competitive.
