At the American Heart Association Red Dress Collection Concert on January 30, Abigail Spencer, 43, spoke to PEOPLE about her deep friendship with Meghan Markle and her excitement for the upcoming Netflix series With Love, Meghan. Spencer expressed her enthusiasm about how the show will offer a “genuine” portrayal of the woman she holds dear.
“What I’m thrilled about is that people will truly get to see the real Meghan, the person I know and love,” Spencer shared with PEOPLE. “You’re also going to learn so much,” she added with a laugh. “I’ve learned a lot from her, and she actually gets to teach me something in the show. I’m just so thankful for that.”
She continued, emphasizing the heartfelt nature of the series: “It’s really from her heart. It really is with love.” The series, alongside Spencer, also features appearances from famous figures such as Mindy Kaling, Roy Choi, Tatcha founder Vicky Tsai, and chef Alice, among many others.
The show has been described as “inspiring” and aims to reinvent lifestyle programming by combining practical tips and candid conversations with both old and new friends, according to the press release.
Originally scheduled for release on January 15, the eight-episode series was postponed until further notice due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that were taking place at the time.
Spencer and Meghan previously starred together on Suits, the legal drama on the USA Network, which aired for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019. Meghan left the series in 2018, ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry. Other cast members included Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, and Rick Hoffman.
In the summer of 2023, Suits saw a resurgence in viewership on Netflix, with the streaming platform now hosting eight of the nine seasons. This renewed popularity led NBCUniversal to announce the creation of a spinoff series, Suits LA, which was ordered in July 2024.
Spencer also expressed her excitement about the new spinoff at the Red Dress Collection Concert, especially about the “beautiful new cast led by Stephen Amell.” She shared her hopes for the show’s success, saying, “We want it to be a huge hit, a huge success.
I’m just so happy for Aaron Korsh and the whole team that they get to do more.” With Love, Meghan will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Tuesday, March 4.
