The Milwaukee Brewers have bolstered their pitching staff by acquiring right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash. This move comes just a week after the Pirates designated Wilson for assignment, clearing the way for him to join the Brewers.
Wilson, 25, had a challenging 2023 season, posting a 3-9 record with a 5.52 ERA in 20 starts out of 25 appearances. He struck out 79 batters while walking 32 in 115โ innings pitched.
Despite the struggles, Wilson has shown flashes of potential during his career, which includes a 9-17 record and a 5.54 ERA over 56 games, with 43 starts. In total, he has logged 232โ innings, collecting 162 strikeouts and 79 walks.
The Pirates originally acquired Wilson, along with right-hander Ricky DeVito, from the Atlanta Braves in July 2021 in a trade that sent Richard Rodriguez to Atlanta. To make room for Wilson on the 40-man roster, the Brewers designated right-hander Trevor Kelley for assignment.
Kelley, 30, pitched in 18 games last season, finishing with a 6.08 ERA and a 1-0 record, primarily in relief roles. This move reflects the Brewers’ efforts to strengthen their pitching depth for the upcoming season.
