Seeing a rising quarterback praise a rookie for their potential is always encouraging. Houston Texans Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud offered high praise for Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams as the two prepare to face each other this week.
Speaking to the Houston media, Stroud described Williams as a dynamic player with immense potential. “Definitely a playmaker. Somebody who can extend plays and make all the cool throws. A tough player. Just really talented,” Stroud said, expressing confidence in Williams’ abilities.
Stroud’s words carry weight, given his exceptional debut season, during which he shattered NFL and franchise records while leading Houston to an AFC South title. He understands firsthand the challenges of excelling as a rookie in the league.
Williams, however, had a rocky introduction to the NFL last Sunday. His 14-of-29 passing performance resulted in just 93 yards, but Chicago managed to secure a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
This win was largely credited to the Bears’ special teams and defense, who delivered game-changing plays, including a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and two interceptions against Titans quarterback Will Levis.
This week’s challenge is a different story. Facing Stroud, who continued his strong form by defeating the Indianapolis Colts in a thrilling 29-27 road victory in Week One, will test Williams and the Bears’ resilience.
To compete with the Texans, Williams will need to raise his game while protecting the football. For Chicago to have any hope of pulling off an upset, their rookie quarterback must step up against a formidable opponent in Stroud.
