The Chicago Bears are moving forward with plans for a new stadium. Soldier Field, their home for the past 51 seasons, has become one of the most iconic venues in the NFL.
But now, it seems the team is preparing to build a new facility that will become their new home. Justin Fields has made it clear that he’d like the new stadium to feature a specific amenity— a dome, something common among many teams in the league.
Fields has publicly expressed his desire for a dome due to Chicago’s harsh cold weather. While many teams view an outdoor stadium as an advantage, particularly when hosting teams from warmer climates, Fields sees things differently.
Take the Green Bay Packers as an example, where Lambeau Field is known for being one of the toughest stadiums to play in. The frigid cold and the passionate Packers fanbase are often seen as factors that make Lambeau intimidating, especially with Green Bay’s notorious subzero temperatures.
However, Fields seems to favor a more neutral setting, one that a dome would provide. With a dome, neither rain nor snow could affect the game, and it would create a more comfortable environment for both teams.
The question now is whether the team will take Fields’ request into consideration. As their first-round draft pick in 2021, Fields has the potential to be a long-term cornerstone for the Bears. If the team views him as such, they may choose to consider his suggestion as they move forward with their stadium plans.
