On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed troubling news regarding McCaffrey, stating, “Questions persist about Christian McCaffrey. He’s dealing with Achilles tendonitis, actually in both legs. Both legs, not just one.”
Schefter elaborated, indicating that this issue has been a recurring concern: “That’s been an ongoing and recurring issue. So there remains a major question as to when McCaffrey will be back for the 49ers.” This diagnosis follows McCaffrey’s recent trip to Germany for treatment, explaining his absence since Week 2.
Bilateral Achilles tendinitis, an overuse injury affecting the tendon connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone, can vary in severity. While some cases may be managed with home care, more severe instances could lead to tendon tears that require surgical intervention.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his condition, the 49ers remain cautiously hopeful, anticipating a clearer understanding of McCaffrey’s status in the coming weeks. They plan to incrementally increase his rehabilitation workload to monitor his response, aiming to alleviate the injury’s impact.
