Emma Watson landed in the South of France on May 20, a few days ahead of her scheduled appearance at the 78th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, which had already begun on May 13.
Her return to the festival marks the first time in 12 years since she last graced the Cannes spotlight, having made her debut there in 2013 during the premiere of Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring.”

Instead of waiting for the red carpet, Watson gave people a look at her fashion taste right from her arrival. While passing through Nice Airport, the actress, who previously won a People’s Choice Award, went for a stylish Bohemian look.
She wore a long skirt with a floral print, paired it with a neat black shirt-jacket, and finished the outfit with dark sunglasses.
Just the next day, May 21, she switched up her look to something fresh and summery. At the Palace of Festivals and Conferences center in Cannes, Watson stood out in a white-and-pink plaid dress.
According to People magazine, she added a touch of elegance with a gold-chain purse and again chose dark sunglasses to complete the look.
Throwback to Her Glamorous Debut in 2013
Back when she made her first Cannes appearance in 2013, Watson didn’t hold back with fashion either. That year, she wore a number of standout looks, one of which was a long black-and-white gown. She was seen wearing it beside Coppola and her co-stars from “The Bling Ring,” including Taissa Farmiga and Katie Chang.
In the film “The Bling Ring,” which is based on real events involving a group of young people who broke into celebrity homes during the late 2000s, Watson played the character Nicolette “Nicki” Moore. That role was inspired by Alexis Neiers, a former reality TV figure.
Watson’s Career on Screen in Recent Years
Even though she’s back in the spotlight at Cannes this year, Watson has not been very present on movie screens in recent times. Her most recent major role was in 2019, when she starred in the film “Little Women.”
That movie, which was directed by Greta Gerwig and based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, also featured Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan.
“Little Women” went on to receive praise from both audiences and critics and was even nominated for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. Since then, Watson has kept things relatively quiet in terms of acting, though her presence at this year’s Cannes Festival suggests she might be preparing for a return.
