The Louisiana Democratic presidential primary is projected to favor President Biden, according to Decision Desk HQ. Earlier this month, Biden met the necessary threshold to secure his party’s nomination, setting the stage for a potential rematch against former President Trump in the upcoming November election.
With Biden’s strong position, he is expected to capture all 47 delegates allocated to the state. Marianne Williamson, an author who briefly suspended her campaign earlier this year, reentered the race late last month and appears on the ballot.
However, as of now, she has not secured any delegates in the Democratic primary, indicating Biden’s dominance in the state. In the 2020 election, Trump outperformed Biden in Louisiana, winning 58 percent of the vote compared to Biden’s 40 percent.
No Democrat has claimed victory in the state during a general election since 1996, when former President Clinton defeated former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) with a margin of 52 percent to 40 percent.
Despite these historical trends and challenges for Democrats, Louisiana is not expected to play a pivotal role in the outcome of the 2024 general election, as candidates focus their resources on more competitive battleground states.
