Mauritania is set to make a major mark on February 25, becoming the first African nation to run a football academy recognized by FIFA. The official ceremony confirming the FIFA status of the FFRIM Academy is scheduled to take place in Nouakchott, within the sports facility operated by the Mauritanian Football Federation.
The event is expected to welcome high-level personalities from both sports and government. This gathering will represent a major advancement in the progress of football development for young players within the country and across the African continent.

A team from FIFA made its way to Nouakchott on January 30 to help put the final plans in place. During their visit, the group, led by Mr. Amit Desai and Ms. Alex Heute Ramos, held discussions with the president of FFRIM, Ahmed Yahya, and other local football officials to ensure that everything was in place for a successful ceremony.
Boost for Football Development and Youth Programs
Through its involvement in FIFA’s Talent Development Program, the FFRIM Academy is now in a stronger position to improve youth football by offering access to upgraded training, professional coaching, and solid infrastructure. These changes are expected to contribute to steady progress in African football standards.
The project will support more than just domestic football growth. It is likely to push other African football associations to follow this structured and FIFA-supported path.
This initiative could open the door to wider international opportunities for African players and help transform how youth football is structured across the continent.
