The Duchess of Sussex shared heartfelt details about her happiness on April 23 during her appearance at the TIME100 summit in New York.
She was speaking about her latest podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, and her recent business projects when she was asked by TIME CEO Jessica Sibley to share something personal with the audience.

Meghan responded with an unexpected but sincere declaration. She said she felt confident saying that she is currently in the best place emotionally that she has ever been. Reflecting on everything she has gone through in her life, she explained that reaching this moment has filled her with happiness and deep gratitude.
A New Phase After Stepping Away from Royal Duties
These remarks come at a time when Meghan Markle, once known from Suits and now the wife of Prince Harry, is receiving fresh public attention. That spotlight has grown stronger five years after the couple left their royal roles and settled in California in January 2020.
In a widely viewed interview from March 2021 with Oprah Winfrey on CBS, Meghan gave a raw and emotional account of her struggles while she was still living in the royal household. During that conversation, she admitted to facing thoughts of suicide and said she reached a point where she could not be left alone.
While fighting back tears, Meghan said she no longer wanted to be alive during that difficult period. She shared how hard it was to even open up to Harry because she felt ashamed, but she knew that if she stayed silent, her situation could worsen. That moment was terrifying for her and stayed with her for a long time.
Returning to Her Old Passions
Since leaving the royal family, Meghan’s life has taken a more positive direction. By 2025, she returned to some of her earlier interests, including creating a Netflix show titled With Love and launching a new lifestyle brand called As Ever.
Long before marrying Prince Harry, she managed a blog called The Tig, which focused on lifestyle and self-expression. While speaking with Sibley at the TIME100 event, Meghan explained how being creative and reconnecting with things that bring her happiness have helped her focus on her well-being.
When responding to questions about why she chose not to film With Love at the home she shares with Harry, she explained it was about creating the right environment for her children. She pointed out that her children’s routines matter to her, especially when they return home for naps.
Meghan did not want a large production team of around 80 people in her kitchen, as she didn’t believe that should be part of her children’s daily experiences. She compared that number to the even larger crew she worked with while filming Suits, which had more than 200 people involved.

Speaking Out Against Criticism
Meghan has addressed comments about her Netflix show and new brand before. In an interview with The New York Times published on April 2 to mark the official start of As Ever, she opened up about how the brand fits into her role as a mother to two young children.
She told the Times that working is something she both enjoys and needs to do. Meghan shared that As Ever gives her the ability to link her work life with her family life. She also revealed that she has been working since the age of 13 and only stopped after she met Harry.
