Fans may soon witness a remarkable transformation for one of the NFL’s most exciting players. DeSean Jackson, the former Pro Bowl receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, who retired in November 2023, is reportedly on the brink of becoming a head coach in college football.
With an impressive 15-season career in the NFL, Jackson left an indelible mark on the game. As a three-time All-Pro selection, he shattered records with his dynamic play, holding the all-time marks for the most touchdowns of 60 yards or more (26) and 80 yards or more (5).
Beyond his total career receiving yards of over 11,000, Jackson’s influence extended well past the statistics. It seems Delaware State will be where Jackson makes his coaching debut.
As reported by Jeff Lightsy Jr., Jackson recently conducted an on-campus interview, and both parties are working towards finalizing the terms of his appointment.
Although Jackson has never served in a coaching role, this position perfectly aligns with his long-standing ambition to coach at a historically Black college or university (HBCU).
He is set to take over from Lee Hull, who departed from the program earlier this month following a difficult 1-11 season. Throughout his NFL career, Jackson achieved groundbreaking milestones. He is the first player to receive Pro Bowl honors as both a kick returner and a wide receiver.
His career took him across multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Rams, Washington, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Las Vegas, yet his legacy was solidified during his extraordinary six years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
In 95 games with the Eagles, he became one of the franchise’s all-time greats. His 6,512 receiving yards rank third in the team’s history, while he holds sixth place with 379 receptions and ninth place with 35 receiving touchdowns.
Additionally, his skills as a punt returner were outstanding, ranking second in returns (132), third in return yards (1,296), and sharing the franchise record with four punt return touchdowns.
