On Thursday, a substantial series of attacks was initiated by Israeli forces against Houthi locations in Yemen, marking the latest round of hostilities between Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group.
According to a statement from the Israeli military posted on X, the strikes involved fighter jets targeting military installations along Yemen’s western coast.
Key sites included military infrastructure at Sana’a International Airport, as well as the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations, alongside three seaports located in the region.
The Israeli military asserted, “These military targets were used by the Houthi terrorist regime to smuggle Iranian weapons into the region and for the entry of senior Iranian officials. This is a further example of the Houthis’ exploitation of civilian infrastructure for military purposes.”
In response, Houthi media reported on the series of strikes targeting the power stations, the airport, and the Ras Isa oil port. This assault followed closely after a Houthi rocket struck Tel Aviv, resulting in injuries to at least 16 individuals.
Israel has conducted multiple strikes against the Houthis in Yemen, aiming to undermine the Iranian-supported group’s capacity to launch attacks.
Despite these efforts, the Houthis have shown resilience, continuing to not only target Israel but also attack commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The group claims this campaign is in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, which has been engaged in conflict with Israeli forces since October 7, 2023.
Additionally, the U.S. has deployed naval assets in the Red Sea and the surrounding Middle East region, actively combatting the Houthis since January. The Houthis have been conducting attacks in the Red Sea area shortly after the onset of the Israel-Hamas war.
