Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has pushed back against reports suggesting that the newly reorganized committee has closed its community centers aimed at minority voter outreach.
Earlier this week, various media outlets reported that the RNC was laying off staff across multiple departments, shortly after a meeting in Houston where the new leadership team, led by former North Carolina GOP Chair Michael Whatley and co-chair Lara Trump, was approved.
These staff cuts reportedly included positions at community centers that were integral to the committee’s efforts to engage minority voters. During her appearance on Fox News’s “The Story” with anchor Martha MacCallum, Trump addressed the situation on Thursday, stating, “Actually, we are keeping those all open.
I can confirm that today. So that is incorrect.” She stressed that the RNC is closely monitoring minority communities, noting that they have been adversely affected by the policies of President Joe Biden.
Additionally, she highlighted the committee’s renewed focus on minority voter outreach, particularly in response to a recent New York Times/Siena College poll indicating an increase in support for the former president among Black and Latino voters.
“At the RNC and the Trump campaign, I assure you, we have a wide-open tent,” she remarked. “The notion that this party is exclusive is completely false. We want everyone to participate and vote because we aim for success for everyone in this country.
Therefore, those reports are inaccurate.” In a statement last week, Trump declared that the RNC’s top priority for the upcoming elections in 2024 is “protecting the vote.”
“This is a serious issue. We have three key pillars to focus on at the RNC to secure victory on November 5: mobilizing voters, safeguarding the vote, and fundraising. However, I would contend that protecting the vote and ensuring election integrity is perhaps the most critical of these three,” she concluded.
