Jon Stewart expressed that Vice President Harris’s role in overseeing President-elect Trump’s electoral victory as states were announced in the House had a somber, almost funeral-like atmosphere.
As Harris presided over a joint session of Congress for the confirmation of the election’s certification, Stewart reflected on the situation during his Monday evening hosting of “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central.

“The ultimate indignity of this January 6 is that Kamala Harris, Donald Trump’s opponent, must take on the role of master of ceremonies simply because she holds the vice presidency,” Stewart remarked. He added a sarcastic, “Poor baby,” to emphasize his point.
Stewart lamented the situation further, commenting, “But it does suck,” before airing a clip of Republicans in attendance cheering as Harris announced the certification of Trump’s election victory. “That’s got to sting,” he noted, highlighting the mixed emotions in the chamber.
Describing the atmosphere, Stewart remarked, “It’s akin to attending your own funeral, with the mourners cheering, ‘Woohoo!’” He continued, reflecting on the discomfort of standing amidst applause for one’s rival.

Taking a jab at both Trump and the Republicans, Stewart referenced the January 6, 2021, incident when rioters attacked the Capitol in an effort to disrupt the certification of President Biden’s victory over Trump, who had continuously propagated false claims of widespread voter fraud.
Stewart concluded with a sarcastic observation regarding the day’s proceedings, stating, “The certification ceremony that we’ve all anticipated every four years since my childhood proceeded without incident.” He added, “It’s incredible how smoothly our democracy functions when you don’t behave like a petulant child after losing.”
