Tems has earned her first solo Grammy Award at the 2025 edition of the prestigious ceremony. Her chart-topping single, Love Me Jeje, secured the Best African Music Performance award, marking another achievement in her growing career.
She triumphed over strong competition, surpassing Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Davido, Asake, Yemi Alade, and others to claim the win.
During her acceptance speech, Tems expressed her gratitude, saying, “Dear God, thank you so much say you put me ontop dis stage and give me dis team.”
She continued by dedicating the moment to her mother, adding, “Tomorrow na my mum birthday, and na she dey here for her first Grammys, and I just wan thank you, mum, becos she don really do a lot for me and my brother.”
This latest recognition strengthens her already impressive Grammy journey. Back in 2023, she earned her first Grammy in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for her work on Future’s Wait For You, which featured Drake.
For the 2025 awards, Tems received an impressive eight nominations. Her track Love Me Jeje secured the Best African Music Performance win, while she also earned nominations for Best R&B Song with Burning and Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild.
At 29, Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, continues to experience remarkable career growth.
