Few moments capture frustration better than the New York Jets’ ongoing streak of baffling errors. During “Thursday Night Football” against the Houston Texans, another blunder was added to their growing collection of misadventures.
What seemed like a promising start to the second quarter quickly devolved into a shocking mishap. Rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley appeared ready to secure his first NFL touchdown on an end-around play toward the right side.
Instead of a career highlight, the play turned into an unforgettable mistake. “Malachi Corley dropped the ball on the goal line as he tried to run into the end zone for a touchdown. The ball rolled out of the back of the end zone, resulting in a touchback and a turnover,” Jets Videos shared on X.
This costly error handed possession to the Texans, leaving Jets fans at MetLife Stadium groaning in unison. What should have been a career-defining moment instead became an 18-yard rush marred by a fumble.
The sequence was even more disheartening considering the impressive drive that preceded it. The Jets had covered 69 yards in six plays, aided by a facemask penalty on former Jets player Folorunso Fatukasi. Yet, instead of capitalizing, they saw their momentum vanish in an instant.
Corley, known as the “YAC King” at Western Kentucky for his skill in gaining yards after the catch, has struggled to make an impact in his limited appearances this season. While he was drafted for his dynamic playmaking, this moment underscored a basic principle of the game: even the most talented players must protect the football.
