Jimmy Butler has made it clear that he wants to leave the Miami Heat. He has also reportedly made his dream destinations obvious, but will he get what he wants? Evan Sidery is reporting that the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors are teams to “continuously monitor” in the days and weeks ahead.
These are the two teams Butler is most interested in playing for, but the Heat have no intention of bending to his will. NBA fans have seen situations like this before, where a star player demands out and a team weighs its options.
Butler wants to play for a team that has win-now potential and that is why he is drawn to the Suns and Warriors. They both have their fair share of problems but they also have A-list players, great coaches, and a chance to reach the playoffs and possibly go far.
Even though neither team sits at the top of the West, they shouldn’t be counted out, especially if Butler came on board. However, the Heat don’t care about Butler’s wishes and will only respond to teams that can give them a good package in return for the star.
Butler’s repeated absences and Thursday’s press conference appearance probably made the front office even more insistent about not listening to his demands. They will work in their best interest, not concerned about Butler’s desire.
Can either of these teams create a trade package that is attractive to the Heat? It would require a lot of assets, so would it be worth it?
